14. Memorial Auditorium (1936)

Monumental Moderne with Art Deco details
Recognized as "a focal point of civic
aspiration and local pride," the Memorial Auditorium was Fresno's most
significant cultural facility for thirty years. The foyer walls and ceiling
were decorated by Anthony Heinsbergen, a
nationally-acclaimed muralist. Heinsbergen's other Fresno murals include the
Pacific Southwest Building (1923), the
Fresno City College Library (1931), and the
Tower Theatre (1939). Other local buildings
designed by Allied Architects include the
Fresno County Hall of Records (1935).
The Auditorium is in the National Register
of Historic Places, and a more detailed
