The Physician's Building was the first building in Fresno to be used exclusively for medical offices. It was designed with a central waiting area dominated by a large skylight. The Physician's Building was published as a U.S. Department of the Interior preservation case study in 1979 and 1982.

Charles E. Butner worked in Fresno until 1913, when he moved permanently to the Central Coast. This building is in the National Register of Historic Places, and a more detailed description is available.
