Santa Fe Depot

35. Santa Fe Depot (1899)

2650 Tulare Street
W. B. Story, Designer
California Mission Revival

The depot was designed and erected in 1899 under the direction of W. B. Story, Jr., who later became President of the Santa Fe Railroad system. The building is simple California Mission style, with arches and a tiled roof.

The Santa Fe Station is an outstanding example of Mission Revival style, once a commonly-used style in California. The site was abandoned for passenger use in 1966 and the waiting room was converted into a communications center for the rail company. The building was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 thanks to the efforts of a college student working on a class project. A more detailed description is available.
