William Thompson, an attorney, moved with his family to Fresno in 1893 and purchased this home in that same year. One of his daughters, Marguerite Thompson Zorach, became a renowned American fauvist painter, textile artist, and graphic designer. A tapestry by Zorach depicting this house, entitled "My Home in Fresno," hangs in the National Collection of Fine Arts at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
