Dudley Bates, the home's original owner, was a New York Life Insurance Company agent. It was later owned by Philip Conley, who served as the Fresno Deputy District Attorney, a judge for the Fresno County Superior Court, and a Presiding Justice of the California Court of Appeal. This residence is part of the Wilson Island Historic District.
